Once again the sun was out for the WorldSSP riders, with air temperatures of 25°C and a track temperature of 39°C at the start of Race Two.
Can and his team had worked on solving some issues they experienced in Race One and in the early part of Sunday’s race his package was working well enough for the talented Turkish rider to be running inside the top six places. He had been as high up in the order as third on laps two and three.
By lap eight Can was fighting to stay inside the top ten and would finally leave Motorland with four more points for finishing in 11th position.
Can’s latest Motorland points score sees him sitting 12th overall in the championship, with 92 in total, after ten rounds of 12 have been completed.
Can Öncü, stated: “I started well from sixth on the grid and in the first laps I kept up a very fast pace that allowed me to stay with the leaders. As the laps went by the grip decreased and I had to reduce my race pace and lost some positions. Compared to yesterday we have solved some set-up problems, but we must continue to work to be more competitive over full race distance. I would like to thank the team for its precious support.”
Borja Gomez Rus (Viamo Racing by MTM) was a strong 12th in the second race at his home circuit. After also competing at the previous round in Cremona, he is now 27th in the championship, with eight points.
Estoril in Portugal hosts the next - and penultimate - round of the season, between 11-13 October.
